    PhD Researcher

    Project

Simulating head impacts to better understand the mechanics of brain injuries in sports.

    Key research areas

Injury prevention, concussion, Gum shields, Biomechanics of human Jaw, neck mechanics, Sports injury mechanics, advanced processing methods, polymers.

    Summary of research

    • Create a jaw that allows effective coupling of mouthguards and allows for clamping of mouthguards at different clamping forces.
    • Create a head form that allows you to recreate real life impacts whilst also allowing you to collect a range of variables such ass angular velocity linear acceleration and clamping forces.
    • Create a product that could be mounted onto a neck effectively.
